Former PlayStation executives Shuhei Yoshida and Adam Boyes have recreated their iconic “this is how you share your games on PS4” moment – now with a very timely game-less picture.
No matter which side of the console war you sat on in 2013, there’s a good chance Sony’s ‘Used Game Instructional Video’ reached you. In the months leading up to the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One, Microsoft’s restrictive game-sharing plans became hugely controversial and Sony decided to take advantage of the negative fan frenzy with one short clip.
PlayStation’s president of first-party studios, Shuhei Yoshida, and head of third-party relations, Adam Boyes, stood in front of a camera and explained to folks how game-sharing worked on the company’s then-next-gen console. Step one? Yoshida handed Boyes a physical copy of Killzone: Shadow Fall. Step two? There was none. That was all. The video racked up 21m views in the past 13 years and has since become one of the defining moments of the PS4’s launch.
Now, Yoshida shared that he reunited with Boyes while at Tokyo Game Show 2026 in a new online post. “Met with a best friend,” he wrote, alongside a picture of the duo recreating their famous game-sharing pose. Quite fittingly, neither have a physical game to share.

Yoshida and Boyes weren’t outright throwing shade at Sony’s disc-less future, but fans obviously interpreted it as a mocking dig regardless. “This is how you share games with your friends in 2028,” one reaction post tweeted.
Earlier this summer, Sony announced it would no longer manufacture discs for new PlayStation games starting in 2028. The company didn’t wait for the body of physical gaming to go cold before it began repurposing its lone disc-making factory, either, leading to months of backlash from players who like to actually own the games they buy. Fans even tried to organise protests against PlayStation’s all-digital future, though the console maker insisted it was sticking to its guns. Gaming analysts told Eurogamer the company’s plans would be a “hammer blow” to traditional game stores and physical retailers.
