FBC: Firebreak’s “weak sales” persist “despite improved player and sales metrics”, says Remedy CEO

Remedy’s beleaguered Control spin-off, FBC: Firebreak, has still not reached the studio’s internal targets “despite improved player and sales metrics after the update”.

Remedy issued a profit warning to investors as it lowered projected operating profits “due to weak sales of FBC: Firebreak”, claiming the missed target had “a substantial impact” on the studio’s finances and revising its forecast downwards. It now expects operating profit to be “negative and below the previous year”.

“FBC: Firebreak was launched on June 17th,” Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala, said (thanks, InsiderGaming). “In its 2025 half-year financial report, Remedy reported that FBC: Firebreak’s launch-phase consumer sales underperformed. After the launch, the company rapidly developed the game based on player feedback and released multiple updates.

“On September 29th, Remedy released the first Major Update titled Breakpoint for FBC: Firebreak, which brought significant changes to the game’s core experience. Despite improved player and sales metrics after the update, sales have not reached Remedy’s internal targets.

“Remedy is recognising a non-cash impairment of capitalised development costs and allocated purchased publishing and distribution rights related to FBC: Firebreak. While we balance future investments to the title, we continue developing and improving the game in line with our updated long-term sales forecast.”

Remedy first hinted it was “unsatisfied” with the sales of its live-service shooter Firebreak: FBC back in August as part of the company’s half-year financial report. The launch succeeded technically and had over a million players in its first 10 days. However, the majority of players were on Xbox Series X/S and PS5, where the game was available day one on subscription services. On Steam – intended as the primary sales channel on PC – the launch “underperformed”.
