One of the biggest questions I’ve always had about Pokémon (and I have quite a few) is this: what is it actually like inside a Pokéball?
If memory serves correctly, the Pokémon anime series has occasionally shown a Pokéball’s interior, with a miniaturized creature lounging inside. But I’ve always wondered how comfortable this is, and what if a Pokémon is claustrophobic? And why aren’t there any windows?
Despite all of this, if someone told me I could go experience what living inside a Pokéball was like, I’d still likely take them up on the offer. And this is why I’m particularly intrigued by an upcoming collaboration between nap-tracking app Pokémon Sleep and the luxury Japanese hospitality firm Not a Hotel.
In a nutshell: you will be able to sleep inside a Pokéball soon.

A trailer for the experience reveals a giant spherical pod shaped like a half-open Pokéball, with its floor space largely taken up by a generous-sized spherical bed. And, yes, there is a window — though no curtains that I can see.
If you’re intrigued to roleplay as a Pokémon and clamber inside a giant ball, then you’ll want to keep an eye on the upcoming lottery (of course there’s a lottery) on September 15 to secure your spot. You’ll also need to travel to Hokkaido, Japan, where the Pokéball pod will be located, so do bear that in mind.
Prefer your bed without a giant perspex window, and also in your own house? That’s fine too. And you’ll have plenty of Pokéballs to throw in the next major entries in the Pokémon series, with Pokémon Winds and Waves on the way next year.
