Resident Evil: Veronica has been announced at Summer Game Fest. The game will release in 2027 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
This reveal came in the form of a trailer, showing some first person guidance through a French apparentment building. WHile the trailer played coy at first, eventually we saw the reveal of Claire before the title drop.
This game, as fans will have quickly realised, is a remake of Resident Evi; Code Veronica. It follows Claire Redfield as she attempts to track down her brother after the events in Racoon City (pre-explosion), so it fits in a nice gap between mainline games.
This is an interesting turn for the Resident Evil remake series. Many were torn on whether Capcom would follow up Resident Evil 4‘s remake with a return to Resident Evil 5. However, that games’ controversial depiction of Africa raised doubts at the prospect.
So, Code Veronica is a sensible alternative! It’s canon, and not so far removed from the mainline story as to be a weird leap for many fans.
It also has big shoes to fill. The Resident Evil 4 remake was the fastest game in the series to hit the ten million sales mark soon after its launch. It was also a critical darling – with our review saying it was “as good as remakes get”.
