Pixelated Zelda-like Mina the Hollower lands its “final” release date

After a bit of a delay, Shovel Knight developer Yacht Club Games has announced its new – and “final” – release date for Mina the Hollower.

Mina the Hollower will release across Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S later this month, on 29th May. It will retail for $19.99 (I have emailed for clarification on UK pricing).

“Prepare yourself for one of the greatest top-down adventures ever to be delivered directly to your soul for less than 20 bucks,” Yacht Club Games proclaimed on social media platform X, announcing Mina the Hollower’s release date. In the meantime, those who are keen to give Mina the Hollower a go on release can wishlist the game now.

In a first for developer Yacht Club Games, Mina the Hollower has nothing to do with Shovel Knight. Rather, this time players will have the chance to take on the mantle of adorable but feisty mouse Mina as she sets out to save a cursed island from the perils that have befallen it. It has been one of my most anticipated games since it was first announced back in 2022 (it was actually one of my first articles on Eurogamer).

Hopefully, all will go well on Mina’s release, as back in December, it was reported a lot was riding on the game’s success, with Yacht Club Games calling it a “make-or-break” moment for the company. At the time, studio founder Sean Velasco said if Mina the Hollower were to “flop”, then Yacht Club Games would still exist, but it would require some kind of cash injection fast.

I played the demo for Mina the Hollower on Switch 2 last year, and loved it. “I collected Bonestone, I popped off various goblins and bats, I burrowed my way underneath enemies to spring up excitingly from behind and I negotiated perilous pits, all while bopping along to a gloriously retro-infused soundtrack… Oh yes, I am certainly looking forward to Mina the Hollower’s full release,” I wrote back in August. This feeling hasn’t changed.
